In these difficult times it is really important that we manage our mental health and developing a positive mindset will help us meet the challenges we face. Here we discuss 5 positivity habits which have been proven to ensure good mental health.
My first sales role involved selling double glazing door to door on a commission only basis and the training for this started on a Monday morning to prepare for my first day on Thursday. It was on the Monday morning that I learnt arguably the most important lesson for my subsequent career. Steve, the trainer, told us all that on Thursday we would go out and knock on 100 doors and only one person would say “yes” to us. We therefore needed to prepare ourselves for 99 people to say “no” to us and be ready for that one person who would be interested. If we didn’t maintain a positive mindset we would not find that person.
This philosophy is something that has stood me in good stead and is an approach I use in my coaching. We tend to be very good at writing out things to do lists, identifying all the jobs we haven’t completed or have yet to start. What we don’t tend to do is to take time out to reflect on what we have achieved, what has gone well and what we are good at.
One of the top habits detailed in the video below stresses the importance of such reflection, as it helps build resilience and confidence. Make yourself a coffee and watch the video to see which habits you already have and which ones you could adopt. They are all simple to implement and research demonstrates how effective they are in maintaining good mental health.
