Researchers in Cleveland, Ohio have recruited a group of people to see if encouraging them to think positively about various scenarios they face will enable them to see situations as opportunities rather than threats. Apparently studies in Cleveland have shown that many people have negative, depressing views of many aspects of life in Cleveland.
Their aim with their research, due to take place over the summer months, is to encourage a group of volunteers to focus on the positive aspects of life in Clevleland, such as the parks, theatres and museums, and to then measure how this impacts onto their thoughts and actions in other areas of their lives. They will also look at the impact this change in thinking has on those around them.
It will be interesting to see the results, as our experience of encouraging people to focus on the positives certainly has a beneficial effect on outlook and performance.
